"Southern Railway's Civil Defence organization celebrated the 51st Annual Civil Defence Day o­n 6th December, 2013 at Southern Railway Institute, Perambur,Chennai

http://sr.indianrailways.gov.in/view_detail.jsp?lang=0&id=0,4,268&dcd=1778&did=13863369230837ACAD1C4FF94F365C62E5BBCC54A0578.web103 Published: 18th December 2013 11:49 AM Over 250 volunteers of the Southern Railway’s Civil Defence Organisation, an organisation under the Home Ministry, showcased their skill and readiness for natural calamities and war-time relief on the occasion of the 51st Civil Defence Annual Day celebrations recently. The volunteers, all employees of the Southern Railway, performed several mock drills and presented demonstrations which were reviewed by the General Manager of Southern Railway, Rakesh Misra and the Deputy General manager and Controller of Civil Defence, N Balaji. The volunteers demonstrated several techniques of war time first aid and rescue such as the Ladder Hinge Method, Two Parallel Rope method, Chair Knot technique, Sliding Stretcher technique which are used for making shift arrangements using ropes for escape from high rise buildings and other damaged areas. The volunteers also demonstrated several basic aid techniques and mimicked war time operations for treating fractures and other injuries and concussions in active war zones. The main focus of the day’s demonstration was the readiness of the organisation during war time, air strikes and other calamities. The Inspector of Civil Defence, Southern Railway, R Ranganathan said, “The volunteers belong to all age groups and are all working employees of the Southern Railways. The strong volunteers who performed had taken time out of their work and underwent training for 5 days for this presentation.
