21 Dec 2013 Mock drill at Pune railway division

PUNE: A mock exercise was
conducted by Pune railway division
of Central railway, in co-ordination
with the National Disaster
Response Force (NDRF) at Ghorpadi
railway yard recently.
During the mock drill, one rail
compartment was made to derail
which was carrying passengers. A
siren was sounded to indicate that
there was an accident. Accident
relief train and medical relief train
rushed to the accident site with
railway officers and staff. After
reaching there a control room,
medical relief tents for first aid
were established. The control room
collected the information of the
injured and minor injured.
Divisional railway manager Suneet
Sharma who was present at the
drill said, "During any accident our
first priority is to save the life of
passengers. The golden hour must
be utilized to save maximum lives.
It is a team work to save
passengers and to clear the track
simultaneously".
Sharma also asked the staff
members to be alert. An accident
can be avoided by a vigilant and
alert railway men, he said.
In this drill around 100 railway
officers, employees, civil defense,
scout and guide and 60 NDRF
personalize worked together.
Officials said that railway
administration was doing such
exercise at regular intervals, to
keep officers and staff trained to
face any type of situation to rescue
the passenger and make the track
safe for regular service.
