PRESS RELEASE: 6TH DECEMBER 2013 CIVIL DEFENCE AND HOME GUARDS CELEBRATE 51ST RAISING DAY § Civil Defence and Home Guards are celebrating their 51st Raising Day on 6th December 2013. These community based organisations have played an important role as a first responders in various emergencies and have contributed significantly in saving precious lives in the aftermath of disasters in the country but have also played a prominent role in maintaining law & order and communal harmony across the country. Due to their dedication and commitment to the cause, these organisations have earned great respect all across the country. § The President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, has conveyed his congratulations to the members of these organisations and appreciated the valuable patriotic service rendered by them to the nation. On the occasion, Shri Krishna Chaudhary, Director General NDRF and Civil Defence said that Civil Defence with a strength of approximately 5.6 Lakh trained volunteers across the country, has gained the unique reputation of being the “True First Responder” during any kind of disaster, either natural or manmade. The unflinching commitment to serve, undeterred dedication, strong determination to save lives & property under trying circumstances are the hallmarks of a Civil Defence volunteer, he added. The Director General’s Commendation Disc for distinguished services of a high order rendered by the personnel of the organisation was also awarded to 44 personnel on the occasion. § Shri Sandeep Rai Rathore, Inspector General, NDRF & Civil Defence said that over the years, Civil Defence has come a long way and its role has been enhanced to include disaster management and brought out the need to further meaningfully harness the potential of Civil Defence Corps and synergise its energies with the other stakeholders in the Disaster Response Mechanism of the country. http://ndrfandcd.gov.in/Contents.aspx?mo=17&li=78
