During the period from 8th - 14th March, 2014 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed its 13 teams in various parts of country viz Assam, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal for relief & rescue operations, emergency response, capacity building , training programmes and Mega Mock drill.
One team of NDRF conducted search operation at Yangmari, Bhutan in connection with missing of 01 person in river Gongri, (Bhutan). The incident took place when a boat carrying 05 persons capsized in river Gongri, in Bhutan. 04 persons could came out alive on their own , however, Sh. Tshering Dorjee a 62 years old was still missing. After five days of thorough search at river Gongri in Bhutan, the National Disaster Response (NDRF) team concluded the search as per suggest of the Bhutanese Government. .
On 10th & 13th March, 2014, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in association with the State Disaster Management Authorities of all the eight Northeast states organized multi-stage Mega Mock drill for a hypothetical earthquake of 8.7 magnitude in order to create awareness about the steps to be taken during an earthquake in various places of NE states. The exercise took place in different locations like hospitals, residential complex, educational Institutes and Government Institutes.
NDRF actively participated in the Mega exercise and demonstrated on quick response during an earthquake at various places to generate public awareness during an earthquake. The demonstration of NDRF was largely witnessed and appreciated by all.
One NDRF team conducted search operation in Sultanpur , U.P, where adjoining soil of a under construction building collapsed as a result of which few labours were trapped inside. After a non stop operation team retrieved one dead body.
On 09th March, 2014 one NDRF team while en route to Gangtok to participate in Mega Mock drill, provided CPR, followed by oxygen therapy to 09 persons, injured in a road accident.
