Civil Defence organised awareness programme in Leh

By Rinchen Angmo Chumikchan, Saturday, March 8, 2014 Leh: In the wake of increasing Road Accident and drug addiction in Ladakh Civil Defence Organization, Leh held an awareness programme on Disaster preparedness and Mitigation under the supervision of Dy. Controller CD Leh Stanzin Losal on 6th March at Sadhbhavana auditorium Leh. In place of SP Leh, DySP (HQ) Leh Mr. Sajad presided over as the chief guest and principal Boys Higher Secondary School Leh Mr. Tsetan as guest of honour. A large number of student, drivers and SDRF team participated in the programme and were made aware about the role and importance of Civil Defence during Disaster and also they were sensitized on their role as first community responders. Dy. Controller CD Leh Stanzin Losal began with an introduction of Civil Defence organization and role of CD volunteers in Hostile Attacks, Peace Time (Non-combatant duties), disaster preparedness & mitigation. A PowerPoint presentation on the same was given by Stanzin Losal. Mentioning it a serious case of concern he said, “In 2013, 87 cases of Road accidents were reported in police station Leh out of which 27 loss their life (22 male and 5 female), 117 were injured out of which 88 are male,26 female and 3 children." The participants were also made aware of the fact that through this organization volunteers can render their noble service towards the society and nation. Dr. Anayat Mir Chief Warden Civil Defence/Medical Officer gave a detailed presentation on Drug abuse as manmade disaster .He stressed on rise in alcohol abuse at Leh and its health, social and economic hazards. Dr Anayat Mir has also requested the DSP to open a Drug Addiction Centre at Leh. SDRF Leh demonstrated basic life support and victim mobilization during emergencies.
