A week-long exercise in rescue and rappelling (rock climbing), performed jointly by the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway and Central Railway, concluded here on Saturday.
In rappelling, the climbers typically use suspension materials, such as ropes, pulleys, ascenders and harnesses to safely climb rough terrain and steep heights.
Rock climbing works up the muscles in the body and challenges a participant’s endurance during rescue operations.
In all, 35 civil defence personnel, including Civil Defence Inspector C.H.U.B.E. Prasad, took part in the exercise under the supervision of Senior Divisional Safety Officer A.K. Moharana.
The team of experts in rappelling from Central Railway, led by Senior Civil Defence Inspector S. Vaidya and Koli, trained the civil defence personnel in Visakhapatnam for preparedness during disasters.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Madanlal Meena said that such exercises would motivate civil defence personnel to continue their service activities with renewed enthusiasm and zeal.
