National Civil Defence College staff bag President's medals :: Jan 30, 2014

NAGPUR: City-based National Civil Defence College (NCDC) added another feather in its cap after three staff members and a trained volunteer were awarded the President's medal on January 26. NCDC is an unique facility run by the union home ministry and it helps to train people for both man-made and natural disasters. GS Saini, director of NCDC, said, "These awardees will be interacting with school students when they visit our facility on February 23 under TOI's Nagpur For Kids event. I am sure it will be an interesting event where the kids will get to know how hard work can bear fruits." Sunil Sawarakar, Devendra Raghav and Ashok Barve are the NCDC employees who received the medals for meritorious services. Sawarkar joined the NCDC in 1994 as a stenographer but with his handwork he soon contributed to other areas of the college. A press release by NCDC mentioned that "since joining NCDC Sawarkar has been performing duties related to training and administrative matters. He has been taking active part in all national seminar/conferences organized by the institute and has also contributed immensely to developing of training manuals and literature as well as maintenance of IT-related work pertaining to development of college website and up-dation of web platform. His dedication towards his job has been appreciated and in recognition of his selfless services he has been awarded the Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Services". Raghav and Barve have been awarded the "DGCD Commendation Disk" for their exemplary performance in their respective field of duties. The fourth awardee Surendra Kumar Khanna is a railway employee who trained at NCDC and is well trained in civil defence. The President awarded him with "Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal". Khanna is currently posted at South East Central Railway (SECR) office in Nagpur. NCDC press release states that "Khanna has been actively associated with SECR Civil Defence Organisation for the past 25 years. He has rendered selfless services at disaster-affected areas of Gujarat, tsunami-affected areas of Nagapattinum, rail accident at Kanhan, Dongargarh mela and Civil Defence Annual Day activities".
